Stem Cells therapy
This innovative technique, is the last step in the line of treatment to avoid the amputation. It is used when it is not possible to perform angioplasty or surgery, and despite full dose medication,(coma) the leg is severely compromised, and patient has to face the need of amputation. This situation is very common in diabetic patients, who develop the so called diabetic foot.
The therapy consists in the injection of patient’s bone marrow stem cells in the interior of the affected vessels, in a procedure very similar to the arteriography. The extraction of bone marrow blood is done under sedation. While the patient rests a couple of hours, the blood is processed, purified and concentrated. About three hours later the implant procedure is performed. Few days later the patient can be discharged, according to his general evolution. Results by now have been very good, saving legs that had clear indication of amputation.
After any of those procedures, the patient has to be on a healthy diet and in a physical exercise program, with the aim of increase the collateral circulation, improve the muscle performance and in the case of patients, who received stem cells, educate those cells to make a new net of vessels.

Angiography of hte left foot, that shows imperceptable vasculature before the implant. Three months after the stem cells endovascular implant, new vessels are shown as result of Angiogenesis.
